Summary of Maria la del Barrio

Maria is a 15-year-old scavenger who lives on the outskirts of the city. She loses her godmother, who before dying begs the local priest not to leave Maria to fend for herself. The priest asks one of his benefactors to please let Maria work as a servant in his house. Instead, the Don Fernando brings her in as his ward, making her a target of hostility for his wife, Victoria, and her niece, Soraya. Maria falls in love with the dashing but drunken and disorderly son of the house, Luis Fernando, and must fight Soraya for his affections. When Luis Fernando and Maria finally get married, he walks in on an innocent embrace between Maria and his brother Vladimir and storms out blinded with jealousy. He does not believe Maria's baby is his, so when it is born, Maria gives it away during a temporary bout of insanity. Luis Fernando rescues her from an asylum and adopts another child for her, but she never loses hope of recovering the son she lost.

"MARIA LA DEL BARRIO" REVIEW

thanks to Diego Plata Sanchez from Huamantla Tlaxcala, Mexico

Maria la del barrio is one of the best novelas in Mexico. Thalia played a very good role as a mother, wife and protector of a family. She suffered alot in the novelas to find her son and protect her family from the evil Sourraya. Cantoral played an excellent evil role, I think that her role is the best role. Fernando Colunga was a good partner for Thalia, I think that they were the perfect couple. The story is very nice and better than Los Ricos Tambien lloran.

I think "Maria la del Barrio" was one of the best novelas ever. Thalia was great but I know it's the last of the trilogy. It was the updated version of "Los Ricos Tambien Lloran" because it was different.

This novela is the same as all of the rest of Thalia's. Poor girl rich guy, with problems along the way. You know the suffering, crying, and nobody likes her. Everyone is out to get her. This novela is too long, and the acting is not that great!!

I loved Maria La Del Barrio. I loved it so much that the second time they aired it I knew I had to record it. I think what made this novela so good was the fact that Soraya was one of the best villans ever. I truely have never seen so much hate in a person like I did with her. Good job Itati.

One of Thalia's best novelas in the 90s after Maria Mercedes in 1992 but this one is best one that I saw in 1996 and 1997 was really great. Last seen in Univision in 2002.
